Beijing. Heavy snowfall for 116 years in northeastern China The average snowfall in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, is up to 20 inches. According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, there has been heavy snowfall since 1905.

Heavy snowfall in Inner Mongolia has killed at least one person and affected more than 5,600. Twenty-seven red alerts have been issued in Inner Mongolia and northeastern China.

The cold snap began in parts of northeastern China on Sunday. The temperature has dropped to 14 degrees. Heavy snowfall has affected traffic and the expressway toll station was closed on Tuesday. Except for the cities of Dalian and Dandong, train and bus stations are closed.

According to officials, most people are living in their homes using coal to keep warm. Markets and grocery stores have also been urged to increase food supplies and reduce prices.

Snowfall in northeastern China has affected lightning this year. Coal has made a significant contribution this year, according to local media. President Xi Jinping has pledged to reduce carbon emissions to zero in the next nine years.
