Marking her first starring role, Ana de Armas plays Marilyn, with the drama providing a fictionalized take on the icon’s life.
Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, Blonde is adapted from the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates.
Adrien stars alongside Ana whose accent as Marilyn was called “awful” on Twitter when the streaming giant released the trailer on July 28, while others said she didn’t look anything like Marilyn.

Responding to the backlash, Ana, who only learned English in 2015, admitted she “didn’t grow up knowing Marilyn or her films”.
“I’m proud to have Andrew’s confidence and the chance to succeed. I feel like whether you’re a Cuban or American actress, everyone should feel the pressure.
“My job wasn’t to imitate him,” defended Ana, who spent nine months working with dialect coach Jessica Drake.

While Blonde isn’t fully licensed by the Marilyn Monroe estate, Ana’s performance received plenty of applause.
Monroe’s estate representative, Marc Rosen, told Variety on August 1, “Ana was a great casting choice because she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability.”
The cast was also championed by two-time Oscar winner Brad Pitt, who is one of Blonde’s six credited producers.
