A bouncer jailed for strangling his British heiress girlfriend has had his 18-year sentence increased by six months.
Marc Schatzle, 33, was jailed in October 2021 for the murder of Anna Reed, 22, and last month appealed the sentence and conviction.
Anna – who funded her holiday and her designer wardrobe – was found dead in their luxury hotel room in Lugano, Switzerland three years ago. Schatzle and her defense team claimed she died in a sex game gone wrong and asked for the conviction to be changed to manslaughter – which would have meant a lesser prison sentence.
But instead, the Lugano Court of Appeal increased the sentence to six months with a spokesperson saying: “The reasoning will be given at a later date, but based on the evidence heard on appeal, they have decided that a longer sentence was warranted.”

The court also ruled that once his sentence is served, he will be deported and will not be able to enter Switzerland for 14 years instead of the original 12, which means he will not be able to visit his child.
German-born Schatzle, who has ‘Warrior’ tattooed on his face and the acronym ACAB (All Cops Are Bxxxxxxx), said on his call: ‘What happened was an accident, I never wanted Anna dead.
“Despite what the prosecutor said, I said sorry, I said sorry to Anna’s family and I said sorry to my family for causing this disaster.
“I didn’t do what the prosecution said, it was just a trivial accident, I accept that I inadvertently caused his death.”
During her appeal last month, prosecutor Petra Canonica Alexakis slammed Schatzle, pictured, saying he had “been lying for three years and that his claims about an ‘accident and a tragically awry sex game’ were baseless.
As he spoke, an ex-girlfriend – named only Michelle – cried, while earlier in bizarre scenes that would never have happened in a UK court, he was allowed to kiss and cuddle her during the breaks.
During his first trial in the Swiss city of Lugano last year, the court heard he had used Anna’s credit card for lavish spending after he admitted he “liked the beautiful things in the house. life”.
The jury heard he met Anna in Thailand in February 2019 and she lavished “£50,000” on him by paying for hotels, restaurants and clothes during their time together.
She was in the Far East after her father, Clive, gave her a round-the-world ticket as a 21st birthday present and she also inherited £250,000 from her mother who died in a home accident in 2016.
Burly Schatzle ruthlessly claimed Anna died when he wrapped a towel around her throat during consensual sex in the bathroom of their five-star La Palme au Lac hotel in scenic Locarno in April 2019.
But Judge Mauro Ermani called him a “liar”, adding that Schatzle was a “dangerous man” and sentenced him to 18 years.

During her appeal last month, prosecutor Petra Canonica Alexakis slammed Schatzle, saying he “has been lying for three years and that his allegations of an ‘accident and a sex game that went tragically wrong’ were baseless.
She said: ‘He’s a killer and the first trial confirmed that. The first trial did not believe it was an erotic game and an accident.
“There is no confirmation of his version of events and he has refused to cooperate with investigators from the start.
“If things had happened as he claims, one would have expected his attitude to be different, but there is no suggestion that he and Anna Reed practiced erotic asphyxiation or sadomasochism.”
Ms Canonica Alexakis pointed out how the telephone cable in their bedroom was found ripped from the wall by investigators and Schatzle insisted it was already broken.
But she added: ‘We know that’s not true because he ordered room service from reception, and it was confirmed by hotel staff.
“Instead he tore the cable, maybe Anna was trying to make a call or maybe he did it to prevent her from calling for help.”

She also pointed out that there were no injuries inflicted on Schatzle by Anna, as she weighed only 55 kg compared to her 105 kg and was lightly built and her fingernails were short.
Ms Canonica Alexakis added: ‘Anna hated liars and she hated being lied to and the night she died she learned what kind of man Schatzle was.’
“She had been tipped off about him by a former boyfriend after being tipped off by an ex-girlfriend of Schatzle, who said he manipulated and used her, lying continuously.
“The night Anna died there was no sex play and there was no attempt at a joke by hiding her credit card in an elevator.
“She died intentionally and the medical report revealed a gum injury consistent with a hand placed over her mouth.”
Anna was described in court as ‘beautiful and wealthy’ with Ms Canonica Alexakis saying Schatzle had ‘just seven francs in her account and 20 francs in her wallet’ on the fateful night.

She continued: “But he knew that a Visa card that Anna had was preloaded with 25,000 Swiss francs, which may not seem like a lot, but for a man who has nothing, it was enough to escape the country.
“That’s why, after killing Anna, he started falsifying the scene. He hid his credit card in the elevator to retrieve it later, as we know guests along the hall heard heavy footsteps that morning.
“He put his body in a bath of lukewarm water to delay the time of death, but paramedics were suspicious when they arrived because of the color and texture of his skin.
“Schatzle waited up to two hours to raise the alarm because he wanted to take the time to save his own skin.
“He faked an accident in the bathroom before raising the alarm, but let’s remember how he set off the alarm, he took the lift to reception.
“Wouldn’t you rush down the stairs if you were in this situation instead of waiting for the elevator?” And we noticed that he had taken the time to tie his shoes and get dressed.
Ms Canonica Alexakis added: ‘Anna was certainly uninhibited when it came to sex, but she was not into rough sex or erotic asphyxiation, her friends and ex-boyfriend confirmed that.
“Schatzle wasn’t into sado masochism or rough sex, two of his ex-partners confirmed that, it’s only him saying they were, but we all know he’s a liar .”
