He said: ‘Broken, broken, all in one. I just wished you were sitting here next to me.

“Things will never be the same again, we didn’t expect that to happen on vacation.

“We need him to be at peace and at home. We’ll get you home no matter what.

Darryl also opened up about his son’s talent for boxing and described him as a “rock” to his friends.

He told Edinburgh Live: “He was really passionate about his boxing. Even on his days off, he was running and always giving 150%, Jack didn’t give up.

‘I will say one thing about Jack and that is the fact that he was a protector. All of his friends would go to him if they had problems because he was their rock.

“If you ever needed anything, he would be the first to rush out of his house and help you.

“He also loved his music, but his passion was hanging out with his buddies.”

David Barclay, trainer of his amateur boxing club, also paid a moving tribute to the teenager.

He said: “On my behalf and on behalf of everyone at Granton Amateur Boxing Club, we would like to share our deepest condolences with the family of Jack with tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat.

“I can tell you that Jack’s passing has devastated an entire community.

“A little less than a year ago you walked into my gym full of ideas and mischief, a typical teenager who loved boxing.

“As anyone involved with Jack would agree, this kid had the heart of a lion. In my opinion, this kid would have gone far in the boxing world.

‘Jack: you were never a member, you were part of the little family. May God give you the best bed in heaven and everyone keeps Jack’s family in their thoughts and prayers. Rest easy little champion.’

Over £7,000 has already been donated to the family.

They wrote: “On behalf of Jack’s family and close friends, it is with great sadness that we announce that our dear friend Jack Pollock passed away suddenly on Thursday 29th September 2022 at the age of 14.

“Jack was funny, adorable and kind. In his group of close friends, he always made people laugh. He always put his friends first – caring more about others than himself.

“Jack adored his mother and was a devoted and loyal big brother. He will be missed by all who knew him.

“With a passion for boxing, he was dedicated to training and being the best. He had a love of CDT and history.

“We are trying to raise funds to help Jack’s mum cover upcoming expenses.

“We know that no amount of money will ever bring Jack back, but if we can help ease the pressure and give the family some relief, we’ll do our best.

“If you are financially able to donate and would like to donate, please do so. The family greatly appreciates all the support.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British child who died in Portugal.
