Confusion as UK narrator appears to start campaign video of Ron DeSantis wife Casey posted hours before announcement
- A video posted to Twitter on Tuesday previewed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ pitch for the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
- It confused viewers as it featured a narrator with a British accent
- One Twitter user accused the Florida governor of ‘globalism’ while another said the United States ‘wage a war to keep [Britain] out of our policy
Ron DeSantis has caused confusion with a short video that many consider his first official presidential race clip – but criticism followed the use of a British narrator.
One Twitter user accused the Florida governor of ‘globalism’ while another said the United States ‘wage a war to keep [Britain] out of our policy.
Some criticized DeSantis for announcing his candidacy on Twitter – even though the short clip isn’t the official announcement but rather a preview of what’s to come later Wednesday night.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk will hold a conversation on social media’s Twitter Spaces feature where DeSantis will confirm he is running in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
It comes after the governor filed paperwork earlier Wednesday making a bid for the White House.

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis posted a 30-second clip to Twitter on Tuesday featuring an image of her husband preparing to take the stage.
A narrator with a British accent starts speaking, saying, “They call it faith because in the face of darkness you can see that brighter future. Once upon a time our best days were waiting for us.
“But is it worth fighting for? Do I have the courage? Is it worth the sacrifice? the narrator questions as DeSantis’ video shows him exiting from behind the stage. ‘America was worth it. Every. Alone. Time.’
Casey DeSantis’ tweet with the video made him repeat the last line. The governor retweeted his wife’s post.
A user by the name of Florida Chris, who has 27,500 followers, tweeted: ‘Why does the Ron Desantis launch video have a UK voiceover? didn’t we wage a war to keep them out of our politics?
“Why does the DeSantis launch video feature a guy speaking with a British accent?” another user interviewed.
A third named Shawn Phillips tweeted: ‘RE: Ronny #DeSantis big announcement Twit… I think anyone who believes him some sort of ‘America 1st’ nationalist is paying close attention to his little drama video… note he used a British Narrator for that! How globalist of you Ronny.

Before posting the video on Tuesday, Casey also posted a link to the Fox News article citing sources who said the governor would launch his campaign on Wednesday.
She wrote, “Big if true…”, along with a smiley face emoji.
After filing documents on Wednesday, DeSantis will announce his run on Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk. Then he will debut an official campaign video and begin a swing in the first voting states of the primaries next week.
