According to analyses, more than 50,000 driving tests per year are taken by learners who have already failed at least five times.
This follows the announcement that current wait times for driving tests at most test centers – as of February 2023 – are still around six months.
Although cancellations are occurring – meaning it could be possible to get a test for around four months – there is still a huge backlog that has been triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.
A theory test costs £23 for cars, so it’s important that you’re sure to answer all the questions you’ll be faced with.
Meanwhile, a practical driving test costs between £62 and £75, depending on when it’s taken.

And the first step for anyone is to apply for a UK provisional driving license – which will cost you £34.
The total bill for repeated failures could set you back thousands of pounds if you also factor in the skyrocketing cost of lessons.
In December last year, Derbyshire Police released an image of a woman suspected of being linked to past driving tests for other people.
She was suspected by staff at the driving center in Quintin Road, Derby, on November 18 of being an impostor. Suspicions were raised by staff when a member realized she might be taking a test on someone else’s behalf.
She is believed to have been linked to ‘similar incidents’ in 12 other counties.
Cops have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing this year and would welcome anyone with information that could help them in their investigation.
And more recently the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) warned drivers they could face a fine of up to £1,000 if they fail to renew their license every ten years.
This means that those who passed their test before 2014 must renew next year.
The news of this comes after the departures of DVLA staff in February in protest against stagnating wages and poor working conditions.
The walkout – which ran from February 20-25 – affected members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union working on medical issues for drivers at DVLA’s Swansea headquarters and its Birmingham base.
