24 September, Kathmandu. If you are planning to travel for a long vacation of Dashain, this year businessmen are ready to give you a fair welcome. Foreign tourist arrivals are almost stagnant. According to the data released by the Nepal Tourism Board on Sunday alone, around 10,000 tourists have entered Nepal in September. Most of these non-resident Nepalis have come home to celebrate Dashain. However, the tourist season has already begun. In this case, the destinations will be run by domestic tourists.
Pokhara, Sauraha and Lumbini are the number one destinations in Nepal. The name of the Annapurna footpath comes from the Everest base camp when the name of the trek is taken. Only Muktinath, Gosaikunda and Janakpurdham represent religious destinations. But there are many such destinations in Nepal, where a few days off can be used to the fullest.
We had requested Achyut Guragai, President of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA), to suggest a suitable destination for the Dashain vacation. The following is a list of possible destinations given to us by Guragai, who is touring Nepal in a package for foreign tourists, on the occasion of Dashain.
Khaptad / Badimalika
Khaptad, situated at an altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, is known as a paradise. If you plan to visit Khaptad, which is the capital of Bajhang, Bajura, Doti and Achham districts, you can go for a leisurely walk and return. Those who can arrange a longer vacation can travel to Khaptad and Badimalika at the same time.
The best time to visit Badimalika is from April to October. Khaptad is easily accessible even in other seasons. Since Badimalika is at an altitude of 4153 meters, you have to go with a little more preparation. You have to set aside 8 to 10 days to go to Khaptad and Badimalika.
Those going to Khaptad from Kathmandu, Pokhara or other districts can start their journey from Silgadhi, the district headquarters of Doti, and plan to return from Bajhang. Or you can start your journey from Bajhang and return via Silgadhi.
Rara has now become an easy destination for ordinary Nepalis. Local businessmen have also started packages here. Homestays are open. Rara, located at an altitude of 2990 meters above sea level, can be traveled by land or air.
From Nepalgunj, planes fly to Mugu’s Talcha Airport. After a short trek from here, it is easy to reach Rara. But for those who can afford a long vacation, the trek from Jumla’s headquarters to Rara can be exciting. Rara can be reached after a three-day trek from Jumla.
After a day’s stay in Jumla’s headquarters, the Rara Yatra can be started. When visiting Jumla, don’t forget to taste the local Marcy rice and local Jumla bean lentils.
Banke, Bardiya and Shuklaphanta of Kanchanpur are the must-visit destinations in the Western Terai. Even if you only spend one night in these three destinations, you can enjoy the local culture, lifestyle and atmosphere.
From the point of view of the weather, it would be most suitable to travel in the Terai. Winter has not yet begun, summer is fading. Banke, Bardiya and Kanchanpur are the three districts where national parks and wildlife reserves can be visited. Due to the spread of homestay culture here, there is no problem of accommodation and transportation.
If you are going to visit Lumbini province in a week’s journey, you can visit the famous destinations of Terai and hills at the same time. You can start your journey from Lumbini. Where a day trip will be enough. You can go to Tansen, the district headquarters of Palpa, to stay that day. On the same day, after visiting Tansen, which is considered as the queen of the hills, one can reach the Rani Mahal of Palpa, which is considered as a symbol of love.
From Tansen and Ranimahal, one can stay at the confluence of Gulmi-Palpa and Syangja at Pavitra Ridi. From there, you can reach Tamghas, the headquarters of Gulmi, and visit the nearby holy site of Resunga.
From here, you can reach the district headquarters Sandhikharka via Supa-Deurali of Arghakhanchi and stay there. From here you can reach Swargadwari of Pyuthan, stay here for one day and return to your destination the next day.
Pokhara-Mustang is a must-see destination for an exciting holiday trip. It is up to you to decide whether to reach Pokhara or enjoy this nearby destination or reach Mustang-Muktinath on a longer vacation. Airlines have started regular flights from Pokhara to Jomsom. This route also travels by road.
Even those who walk from Pokhara have the option to take the Annapurna footpath. Taking a week off from Annapurna Circuit can be an unforgettable journey. From Pokhara, you can walk through Ghorepani and Tatopani.
Dolakha Bhimsen and Kalinchok are easy destinations to return from if you leave Kathmandu for two days. On the first day of walking from Kathmandu, one can reach Dolakha district headquarters Charikot and from there one can visit Bhimsen temple.
On the same day, you can reach Kuri Bazaar, the lower station of Kalinchok. Exciting views of the sunrise can be seen from here by visiting Kalinchok the next morning. On the same day, you can return to your destination via Charikot.
Province No. 2 is the most attractive destination for religious tourists. From Janakpur of Ghanusha, different religious destinations of Siraha and Saptari can be reached on the same journey. There are enough places in Dhanusha to visit Janakpurdham and its surroundings. This region is also a rich region of Mithila culture.
In Rajbiraj, Kankalini temple, Rajdevi, Durga Bhagwati, Hanuman idol of Hanuman Nagar are considered to be religious destinations. You can go to Koshi Barrage which is 25 kilometers from Rajbirav and enjoy fish dishes.
Dharan-Bhedetar-Dhankuta or Mundhum footpath
Dharan-Bhedetar-Dhankuta are suitable destinations for those planning to visit Eastern Nepal. On this occasion, Mundhum footpath in Bhojpur and Khotang districts can also be reached. Mundhum has been included in the list of must-visit destinations by the Government of Nepal. Budhasubba Temple is the most famous destination in Dharan. Bhedetar, 21 km from here, is famous for its natural beauty and scenery.
Another destination from here is Dhankuta. This region can be a suitable destination for roaming with Rai-Limbu culture. Dhankuta is also famous for its orange and junar farming. Those who go on the Mundhum footpath have to set aside at least a week.
This trek can be started from Bhojpur headquarters, Temkedanda of Bhojpur or Diktel of Khotang. The trek can reach Salpapokhari at an altitude of 3750 meters.
Ilam is a destination that should not be missed for Eastern Nepal. Many destinations in Ilam can be traveled at once. There is a lot of people coming to Fikal to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the tea garden. Ilam is also famous for its sunrise observation. For that, many passengers reach Sandakpur. Sandakpur hill is on the border with India. When you reach Ilam, you can hide in any weather with fog and mist.
After visiting Ilam, one can reach Taplejung via Panchthar. The most famous destination in Taplejung is Pathibhara Mata Temple. Holidays can be used to the fullest during the journey to this temple, which is still crowded with pilgrims during Dashain.
Pathibhara can be reached by vehicle from Phungling Bazaar, the district headquarters of Taplujung, to the upper station. From there you can reach the temple after walking for about 3/4 hours.
