People just found out about Uber’s rating distribution setting because they say they wish they “never found this.”
The rideshare app has a rating system so potential drivers can see how well you are performing and ensures that you will be picked up quickly by equally well-rated drivers.
After each Uber ride you take, the driver can anonymously rate you between 1 and 5 stars. So the better your journey to your destination, the better your score.
And if you’re curious about your average Uber rating, you can head to the app or log into your online account to find out your breakdown.
However, while you can see your ratings and a breakdown of the stars you’ve earned – including 1-star ratings – you currently cannot see a more detailed breakdown of why you received the stars.

Emma Gribbon, who goes by Emmatainment on TikTok, shared a video explaining that there is a “way to find out how many one-star reviews you have received from Uber drivers”.
After explaining the steps, she said she had “never met a person who didn’t have at least three stars”.
Social media users were also shocked by the hack, saying they will “rethink my life decisions for the rest of the day”.
One person said: “I feel like Uber drivers should explain why they give us a bad rating like we do if we rate them badly lol.”
Another wrote: ‘I have four 1 star reviews like WHAT WAS THE REASON?! I literally sit down and mind my business.
And a third jokingly said: ‘I feel like my friends contributed to some of these 1 stars.’
The average Uber rider rating is 4.89 out of 5, and the rating is based on the average of your last 500 rides.
But there are things you can do to get a lower rating, like making a driver wait at the pick-up point for a while, as that might prevent them from picking up another passenger.
Another thing drivers look for is safety, so not wearing a seatbelt can cost you stars.
Also, not showing up at all for your ride is also not and will likely cost you dearly.
Here’s how to access your ride ratings:
- Open the Uber app
- Go to your account, which is located at the bottom right
- Scroll down to “Settings”
- There you will find the “Privacy” tab if you scroll down. Click on it
- Then click on ‘Privacy Center’
- Under your data and privacy at Uber, click on the first pin which is “Would you like to see a summary of how you use Uber?” picture. You must select ‘View summary’
- Once you are in this tab, you need to scroll down to the ‘Notes’ section and click on ‘View my notes’
- Here you will see a breakdown of your driving grades
How can I improve my grade?
If you’re worried about your score and how it affects you as a runner, there are things you can do to improve it.
Uber has shared some tips on what you can do to boost your score, including packing your trash and other belongings after the ride is over.
They also advised you to put your safety first and buckle up for the ride.
Uber said studies show unbuckled passengers in the back seat can put the driver at increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Being ready and on time for your trip is valuable and ensures a smoother pickup.
More importantly, treating everyone and everything with respect will get you a good rating, Uber says.
As stated in their community guidelines, they want passengers and drivers to feel safe, respectful and positive, adding that you should always treat your driver and their vehicle as you would like to be treated.
They added that drivers have consistently cited door slamming as a reason for removing stars.
