Donald Trump Jr. has blasted John Fetterman as a “vegetable” who would be better employed as a grocery bagger than a US senator.
The former president’s son said the Pennsylvania Democrat lacked “basic cognitive function” in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday while Fetterman continues treatment for clinical depression at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
“I’m the one who’s willing to say that stuff because somebody has to because it’s crazy. What’s really going on, right? Trump pushed the crowd. “When I said, like, I don’t know, it’s kind of weird that Pennsylvania got to elect a vegetable.”

“They criticize me for being ableist,” Trump continued. “I didn’t know what it was.
“I wish John Fetterman had a good paying job,” Trump said. “Maybe it could be like some type of bag in a grocery store or, but like, is it reasonable for me to expect that you, as a citizen of the United States of America, have basic cognitive function?
“He is clearly unfit for office,” Trump said. “This guy had these issues, and they ran him anyway because they want a radical extremist who wants to free murderers.”
“We need to start voting with our wallets,” Trump said before plugging in two of his personal business ventures – news service MxM News and conservative online marketplace Public Square.
Fetterman’s office said Monday that the senator was following official hospital business.
“He visits staff and family daily, and his staff keeps him up to date on Senate business and news,” Fetterman communications director Joe Calvello said in the statement.
Calvello said Fetterman’s team is moving “full speed” but stressed that the senator’s recovery would be a “week-long process.”
Trump started his speech with a Willy Wonka-esque stunt where he told conservatives in the crowd to look under their chairs and see if they had won a ‘golden ticket’ to his father’s private event the following night after the elder Trump’s keynote speech at the conference.
The half-full crowd started rushing to look for a ticket around the empty seats.

He closed his speech by making his pitch to put his father back in the White House in the next election.
“We need a president who doesn’t belong to other people, don’t we?” There’s a reason the billionaire class — even the new conservative billionaire class — wants someone other than Trump,’ he continued.
‘It’s because they want someone who needs them to take their call,’ Trump said in an apparent jab at Fox Corps’ Rupert Murdoch, who recently told a court he wanted that his hosts were more forceful in speaking out against Trump’s 2020 voter fraud allegations.
“I want the guy who doesn’t need to take that call, who isn’t entirely beholden to them,” he said. “My father certainly didn’t.
Trump continued, “You know, there’s a lot of billionaires even on the Republican side, it’s like, yeah, we’re really tough on China, but like, don’t be so tough.”
