Manchester City legend David Silva has been fined €1,080 (£942) for catching a young woman during a fight at a carnival in the Canary Islands.

The incident took place at the Maspalomas Carnival in Gran Canaria on June 19 and also involved the Real Sociedad star’s brother Fernando Antonio Jimenez Silva and an unnamed third person.

According to the Spanish media Tiempo de Canarias, which had access to court documents, it was said that Silva, with “the intention of harming the physical integrity” of the victim, “squeezed his arm violently for the away, causing her to fall on the ground.’

The young woman reportedly suffered from post-traumatic neck pain, a contusion on her left elbow as well as bruises and abrasions on her knees and a finger on her left hand.

She needed medical assistance on the spot “without requiring further medical treatment”.

The unidentified third person involved in the scuffle allegedly hit a young man with a stone and threatened another with a knife, shouting “come here and I’ll cut you”.

It is understood the case never went to trial as all of the defendants admitted their role in the incident.

The Real Sociedad midfielder admitted the facts by the prosecution and was fined €1,080 (£942) “at the rate of 12 euros a day for three months”.

According to the Spanish publication, this conclusion was reached because the footballer was “the responsible perpetrator of a minor offense of injury, with subsidiary personal liability in the event of non-payment of a day’s deprivation of liberty for two daily installments unpaid,” the judge said.

Silva was also instructed to compensate the young woman with €520-€280 of that amount due to injuries sustained and the remaining €240 due to property damage caused as a result of the incident.

The judge said the defendant then approached another man with a knife and threatened him, saying, “Come here and I’ll cut you.” He was sentenced to eight months in prison for throwing the stone, together with a three-month fine for the second threat.

There is no suggestion that anyone pictured with Silva was involved in the incident during the carnival.

Silva owns the luxury resort on Amadores beach in the Anfi del Mar region of Gran Canaria.

The resort has private cabanas with their own pools spread across the resort, while lounge chairs sit next to huge communal pools and hot tubs with stunning ocean views.

The 36-year-old left Manchester City in 2020 to join La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Real Sociedad were approached but declined to comment.
