Hunter is ‘shot by his own dog after his pet pulled the trigger on a still loaded shotgun’ in the trunk of his car while packing in Turkey
- Ozgur Gevrekoglu, 32, was on a weekend hunting trip in Turkey’s Alacam district
- He is believed to have loaded a shotgun into his car before his dog stepped on the gun
- The dog’s paw pulled the trigger and blasted the new dad at close range
A new father is said to have been shot at close range by his pet dog as he was packing his bags after a hunting trip in Turkey.
Ozgur Gevrekoglu, 32, was about to return from a weekend of hunting on the Kizlan plateau in the Alacam district of Turkey’s Samsun province when the tragic incident unfolded yesterday.
It is believed that Gevrekoglu was loading the shotgun in the trunk of his car when his dog jumped into the vehicle and his paw pulled the trigger.
The hunter was shot by his own weapon and was killed almost instantly.

The avid hunter was killed when one of his dogs supposedly stood on a shotgun in the trunk of his car
According to Turkish media, as the hunter put his dog in the trunk of the car, the dog pulled the trigger on the still loaded shotgun which was aimed at its owner.
Gevrekoglu’s body was first taken to Alacam State Hospital and then transferred to the state capital, Samsun, for post-mortem examination.
Local media reported that the stricken hunter became a father just 10 days before his tragic death.
Gevrekoglu, an apparent dog lover, posted a series of photos with several different dogs on hunting trips and it’s unclear which dog was responsible for his untimely death.

A snap recently posted to social media showed Gevrekoglu smiling broadly while holding a chain of dead birds in one hand and stroking a dog’s neck with the other.
Police and prosecutors are investigating Gevrekoglu’s death and no foul play is suspected.
But some media have speculated that the killer dog charge could be a cover for a murder.
At least one media outlet has reported that the version of events widely reported in local media seems unlikely and that Ozgur may, in fact, have been the victim of a targeted attack.
The prosecution is investigating the case.
