Saudi Arabia has declared a public holiday tomorrow to celebrate their soccer team’s incredible World Cup victory over Argentina.

All public and private sector employees and students in Saudi Arabia will have the day off on Wednesday after their national team beat Argentina 2-1 in one of the biggest clashes in World Cup history .

The Gulf state is currently ranked 51st in the world behind hosts Qatar and entered the tournament with low expectations in a group with Argentina, who were tipped by many to fight for ultimate glory.

But in a truly breathtaking turn of events, the underdogs sent the world’s number three ranked team crashing to the bottom of Group C with a stellar 2-1 win.

Saudi fans were pictured celebrating Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘SIU’ style en masse as they exited the stadium in dizzying scenes of pure joy.

And now Saudis can continue their celebrations tomorrow as King Salman endorses plans to give all employees and students a national holiday, the Saudi Press Agency reports.

In the Saudi capital of Riyadh, football fans had gathered to watch their team play against Argentina and at the final whistle the delighted fans burst into joy.

The Saudis, including the children, waved their national from car windows at high speed as they smiled in disbelief at what their football team had just achieved against Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

A Saudi TV channel showed a long line of cars with veiled women standing in their open sunroofs waving the Saudi flag in the kingdom.

During the match, Saudi Arabia, the tournament’s second lowest ranked team after Ghana, lost 1-0 in the 10th minute after Messi scored a penalty.

But Saudi Arabia waved caution early in the second half, charging into the Argentina defense in front of a frenzied crowd of 88,012.

Saleh Al-Shehri fired low in the 48th minute while Al-Dawsari curled a searing strike from the edge of the penalty area in the 53rd minute to leave Argentina and Messi stunned in Group C opener .

A stunned Messi watched the green-clad Saudi fans, who had crossed the Qatari border in their thousands, celebrate in disbelief in the stands.

The Saudi substitutes rushed onto the pitch to congratulate Aldawsari, who dropped to his knees after his post-goal acrobatics.

When the final whistle sounded, Saudi fans let out jubilant roars as the players ran around the pitch to hug each other.

“Thank goodness the players were up to it and we wiped them off. They relied on one player, we competed as a team and wiped them down, we are up to it. Beware of Saudi Arabia because when it hits it hurts,” said Saudi fan Abdelaziz al-Khwatem.

‘Wow! I have all the feelings right now. We beat Argentina, one of the great teams!’ said Saad, a Riyadh fan who has been in Qatar for two weeks and wore a green Saudi Falcons scarf around his neck.

“Our guys played so well – everything went well inside the stadium today. It was amazing.’

“One for the books,” said Saudi coach Hervé Renard. ‘It’s football. Sometimes things are completely crazy.

Saudi Arabia’s biggest previous victory was 1-0 against Belgium in the 1994 World Cup, secured by a legendary individual goal from Saeed Al-Owairan.

With games ahead against Poland and Mexico, Saudi Arabia now have a chance of reaching the knockout stage of the tournament for only the second time in six attempts, having reached the last 16 on their debut in 1994.
