What happened to the people’s house? Karine Jean-Pierre claims she has NEVER heard of the name One Direction and Niall Horan Butchers as she announces he will be at the White House for St. Patrick’s Day
- Publicist Karine Jean-Pierre said on Thursday that she had never heard of boy band One Direction
- She made the admission when announcing that former member Niall Horan would be performing at a reception on St. Patrick’s Day.
- “I’ll keep my One Direction comments to myself, I don’t know who they are,” she laughed.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre admitted on Thursday that she had no idea who One Direction was, as she announced that Irish singer and former member Niall Horan would perform at the St. Patrick’s Day festivities Friday.
“Niall is a multi-platinum singer-songwriter who has toured the world, notably with One Direction,” Jean-Pierre said during the press briefing. “I’ll keep my comments to myself on One Direction, I don’t know who they are,” she laughed.
The press secretary also emphasized the wrong syllable in Horan’s surname when announcing that he would be the entertainment for Taoiseach of Ireland Leo Varadkar’s visit to the White House.
“We are all excited to celebrate this tomorrow here at the White House. And so I’m sure you’re all going to celebrate with us and the rest of the country,” Jean-Pierre told reporters.
The Taoiseach’s visit will begin with breakfast at the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, where “St. Patrick’s eggs” would be served.

WHICH WAY? White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre admitted on Thursday that she had never heard of boy band One Direction

Jean-Pierre announced that former One Direction member, Irish singer Niall Horan, would perform at a White House St. Patrick’s Day reception on Friday
Biden and Varadkar will then meet for a bilateral meeting and travel to Capitol Hill for the annual Friends of Ireland Caucus St. Patrick’s Day luncheon.
Horan will perform at an early evening reception that includes a presentation by Shamrock.
Horan was one of five members of One Direction, the popular British-Irish boy band of 2010, which has sold over 70 million records worldwide.
The group officially broke up in January 2016, but the members remained headline-grabbing.
Most important, of course, is Harry Styles – who has not only scored recent hits like Watermelon Sugar, but also branched out into acting.
Reporters in the White House briefing room gave Jean-Pierre Styles’ name when trying to explain why she might have heard of One Direction.
Last year, Styles starred in actress-turned-director Olivia Wilde’s second feature, Don’t Worry Darling, and ended up dating her through November.
The film’s drama-filled publicity tour in September continues to be discussed.
For one, Styles’ co-star Florence Pugh was reportedly at odds with Wilde — and only made one appearance to market the film, at the Venice Film Festival.
At that festival, it emerged that Styles had spat on his co-star Chris Pine – which both men denied.
At Sunday’s Oscars, host Jimmy Kimmel asked Malala Yousafzai, “As the youngest Nobel laureate in history, do you think Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine?”
“I only talk about peace,” replied the 25-year-old activist.
