Liv Garfield tipped for top job at Vodafone: Boss of one of UK’s biggest water companies emerges as outside candidate

On the move?: Liv Garfield has been leading Severn Trent since 2014
The boss of one of the UK’s biggest water companies has emerged as an outside candidate for the top job at Vodafone.
Liv Garfield, who has led Severn Trent since 2014, could make a dramatic return to the telecoms sector as a replacement for recently ousted Vodafone boss Nick Read, City sources say.
The 47-year-old spent three years as managing director of BT’s broadband division, Openreach, where she led the rollout of fiber optic internet.
April will see his full nine years at Severn Trent – the suggested maximum a director should sit on a company’s board, according to the UK’s corporate governance code.
Other candidates include former EE mobile network boss Olaf Swantee and Virgin Media O2 chief Lutz Schüler.
There is also speculation that Vodafone could hand over the job to its interim chief executive and chief financial officer Margherita Della Valle, although that could provoke a backlash from some investors.
