One of the biggest issues plaguing the electric vehicle sector is the accessibility of charging stations across the country, which puts pressure on councils to place chargers in the right areas and keep them in use. working condition.

Solar lamp supplier The Solar Center has analyzed the latest data recording the number of electric vehicle chargers in cities across the UK to find out which locations have the highest percentage of broken electric vehicle charging points.

Newcastle and York round out the top five cities with the highest number of EV charging stations out of order, at 21.4 and 21.2 per cent respectively.

Currently, it is estimated that there are 47 electric vehicle charging points per 100,000 people in the North East of England, while Yorkshire has one of the lowest figures in the UK.

All three sites received additional funding to improve their electric vehicle infrastructure.

The Government of Northern Ireland recently announced plans to invest £3.27million in upgrading the electric vehicle network across the country by replacing unreliable chargers and replacing fast chargers with fast chargers .

Sitting in second place, Worcester City Council has put forward proposals to increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations with the long-term aim of developing a roll-out strategy to place more public chargers in the city.

Similar to Worcester, Ipswich is also looking to increase the number of public charging stations, particularly around borough car parks, and last year it was announced that fourteen new charging stations were being considered for installation.

Brian Davenport, owner and co-founder of the Solar Center, said: “Electric cars are environmentally friendly, convenient and have lower running costs, but a lack of available chargers and inconsistency in their ability to work could put drivers off.

“With the road to 2030 only seven years away, it is essential that local councils are given extra funding to ensure their electric vehicle charging points are working and placed in convenient areas to encourage more drivers to switch cars petrol and diesel to electric cars.
